3 Month old Ford Focus ST3 Belated New Car Detail

Evening everyone, time for another update for you and this time we’re bringing you this Ford Focus ST Mk3 in my favourite colour, Stealth Grey! Our customer Adam contacted us in regards to his car as ever since he had bought it from new he was never entirely happy with the paintwork due to the flat grey paint looking dull and was covered in light swirling and scratches, most likely due to the Ford dealership preparing the car for him.

After a conversation with the customer he was after a thorough New Car Detail with all the bolt ons to make sure the car was fully protected, once we were told that the car had been prepared by the dealership and that the car was a few months old we advised the customer that the car may need an Enhancement detail to get the paintwork perfect.

As soon as the car was dropped off with us on a cold Monday morning we began the first process, the wash and decontamination. We proceeded with a pre-wash, two bucket safe wash and a three stage decontamination. We found that there was a lot of fallout on the car, most likely caused from tree sap or similar. For the safe removal of the contamination we first used Korrosol from Bilt Hamber. This was left to dwell or ‘bleed’ for 10 minutes then thoroughly rinsed off, any remaining contamination was then removed carefully used a fine grade clay bar.

Once the paintwork was decontaminated we proceeded to dry the car and giving it a quick wipe down using Gtechniq Panel Wipe to remove any remaining waxes or oils leaving the paint ‘naked’ and ready for correction.

On inspection of the car though there wasn’t a huge amount of swirl marks the paint was rather dull and there was other defects all over the paintwork. We proceeded with the cutting stage to remove the defects, before doing so we checked the depth of the paint all over the car and tried out various compounds and polishes on a test panel to gauge an idea of the hardness of the paint and to find the best solution for removing the defects from the paint while keeping as much depth on the paint as possible. We opted for a Microfibre Cutting Pad accompanied with Koch Chemie F5.01, a fine polishing compound.

All the hard to reach areas were either polished by hand or by using a spot pad, we made sure every exterior painted panel was corrected to the highest level.

After the correction stage was complete we wanted to make sure the paint was perfect. Due to us using a cutting pad and compound the paint was covered in something we refer to as ‘DA haze’, similar to how a rotary machine would leave holograms. To remove this and enhance the gloss we used a Microfibre Finishing Pad along with Menzerna SF3500.

During the correction stage we also removed the wheels for protection. While the wheels were off we cleaned up the underside and treated all the plastics for maximum protection. The wheels were wiped down and C5 Wheel Armour was applied to the full wheel as well as the freshly cleaned and decontaminated brake calipers as part of one of our Gtechniq bolt on services.

Next up we started on the protection on the rest of the car, for the paint work the customer opted for Koch Chemie 1k Nano giving the an abrasion and chemical resistant layer while giving brilliant water and dirt repellency that would last a minimum of a year. The rest of the exterior such as plastic trims and exhaust were also protected using Gtechniq EXOv2 as an added bonus for the customer.

Onto the interior, we gave the full interior of the car a thorough clean and wipe down. We followed up with the protection stage making sure everything was coated to help keep the car easy to maintain. The customer had opted for the Full Gtechniq interior protection, we used Gtechniq I1 Smart Fabric for all the carpets and mats, L1 Leather Guard and C6 Matte Dash.

Time for the finished article, we left all the coatings to cure overnight and gave the car a quick detail in the morning ready for the customer to collect the car. The customer was extremely happy with his car and you can see why, the finish was truly stunning. The previously flat Stealth Grey was now defect free and left with amazing depth and shine, just how a new car  should look!

We also want to say a big thank you to Adey @ Dents First for his dent removal on this car during the detail!
